Cork Trivets

I saw a post on Pinterest about these cork trivets from Ikea and made me very excited to try to make them.

The trivets cost $3.99 for a pack of 3 and measure 7″.

I had never used wood burners before and I was really scared to try it. But I’ve decided to face my fears (well, some of them) and do what I want to do. So I went to Home Depot determined to get a wood burning kit. Just when I got there I noticed they didn’t carry it in stores, just online. And I was not going to wait another day.

Just around the corner from Home Depot there’s Michael’s, I remembered. Found it in the wood section for $31.99 but I used a 40% off coupon (paid $19.19 for it).

It comes with several points but the one I think it worked the best for this project was the “flow point”. It’s round and perfect for cursive.

I made a cardstock stencil with my Cricut. Christine from Where The Smiles Have Been made them with contact paper but I had some scrap paper and decided to use it. It worked perfect for me. I taped the sides so I could trace it better.

I am seriously in love with this tool and for sure going to use it more often. Stay tuned!

This is the end project:

I love it!!!
